This archaeological site was excavated by
Yigal Shilo in the 1970's. Remains froms the end of the first Temple period abound here.
Amidst the homes built atop a large, stone stepped structure presumably built as a support
structure for a very large building (David's fortress? The Fortress of Zion?) the
archaeologists uncovered evidence of the Babylonian destruction of the City by
Nebuchadnezzer. |
