2nd Temple Column

The Broad Wall

THE BROAD WALL

Remains of a fortification of a section of the city wall of Jerusalem from the First Temple period. We believe it to have been built by Hizkiyahu the King in order to defend the city against an Assyrian advance at the Hands of Sancheriv. It's interesting to note that every structure surrounding this wall is brand new, having been rebuilt since the 6 day war of 1967. It was largely the Jordanian destruction of Jerusalem in the 20th century CE which exposed to us the UNDESTROYED city of Jerusalem of the 8th century BCE!
