PICTORIAL HISTORY OF THE WESTERN WALL

In 1948, the Kotel was conquered by the Jordanian Arab Legion. According to the cease-fire agreement Israel and Jordan signed in 1949, Jewish worshippers were to be permitted to visit the Wall, but the Jordanians ignored this paragraph (no. 8) of the agreement, as they ignored other important paragraphs. The wall stood desolate for more than nineteen years, until June, 1967.
