  SYNAGOGUES
The shuls of Jerusalem's Old City are, with one exception, newly rebuilt
or renovated since the 1967 six day war in which the Old City of Jerusalem was liberated
from the Jordanians. Their occupation left 52 of the 53 synagogues destroyed or in ruins.
The building and expansion of Synagogues in Jerusalem reflects the growth
and expansion of the Jewish population in the Holy City from the arrival of Nachmanides,
the Ramban in 1267, to our return in 1967.
